Call to return missing lamppost

DEVELOPERS who removed a lamppost leaving residents fearing the walk home in the dark, have been told to put it back.

The lamppost was taken away in September when Brunel House in St James Road, Brentwood was built by Wimpey construction.

But despite a promise that it would be restored before the winter nights drew in, residents are still waiting.

Households living in Rollason Way, Chase Road, Wharf Road, Railway Square and St James Road have since faced a dark walk home from the station.

Cllr Norman Hume, cabinet member for highways and transportation said: "This streetlight was temporarily removed by the developer of the site with the permission of Essex County Council on the understanding it would be replaced as soon as the development and new footpath was complete and that they would meet the full cost.

The developer ordered its replacement in December but due to some issues with the footpath has been unable to put the light column in.

"We have expressed our concern at this and have asked for replacement as soon as possible and are seeking an urgent date for its replacement. We are monitoring the situation very closely."

In correspondence seen by Cllr Karen Chilvers, Wimpey have confirmed they are aware of the situation but still has no set date for the works to be carried out.
