Statement: Cllr Barry Aspinell

July 14, 2010 3:48 PM

Cllr Barry Aspinell has been suspended until 31st August 2010 following a Standards Committee investigation regarding the wording of a leaflet in 2009.

Cllr David Kendall, Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Brentwood Borough Council, said:

"Whilst we respect the decision of the standards board, it is disappointing that they have made the decision to suspend Barry after 28 years service to the community as a councillor. However, we are pleased that the committee confirmed that Barry did not "lie", an accusation that had been levied against him in the press."

"Cllr Aspinell continues as county councillor but it is "business as usual" in Pilgrims Hatch ward where Cllr Vicky Davies and I will be dealing with Barry's considerable case work."

"We look forward to welcoming Barry back in six weeks time when he can continue to work hard for residents."
