Lib Dem County Councillors David Kendall and Barry Aspinell are celebrating the news that the 73 Evening bus service, that runs between Pilgrims Hatch and Warley via the High Street, has been saved after a long running campaign and a petition signed by over 200 bus users and residents.

Essex County Council has just announced that a new one year contract has been provisionally awarded to First Essex buses to continue running the 73 evening bus service on behalf of the County Council. The evening service had been at risk because it exceeded the support limit of a cost per passenger journey of £5. However following a competitive tender, prices for the route have fallen meaning the service is no longer at risk. Users will be pleased to hear that the service will continue to operate with the existing timetable.

Cllr David Kendall said:

"This is great news for bus users in Brentwood because the 73 and 498 services are the only two evening services we have operating in the Borough and it is vital we keep them going particularly for the young and the elderly. Once again I would like to thank all those people who signed our petition and sent in letters calling for the evening service to be saved. Their support really did make a difference and they should be proud of what they have able to achieve".
