Street lights to go off in Brentwood in February

Street lights in Brentwood will be switched off between midnight and 5am in Brentwood from 1st February next year if Essex County Council's proposals go ahead.

The Liberal Democrats oppose this move and have concerns about safety and security, furthermore they do not feel that other avenues have been explored. We are running a poll to see what residents think of the proposals.

Please take part in our poll.

We are currently awaiting a full map of where the lights will be switched off as some areas will not be affected.

County Cllr David Kendall said:

"I do not believe that part time lighting is right for many urban parts of Brentwood. Many residents living in these areas will have serious concerns about increases in crime and anti social behaviour. There are also serious road safety concerns to be considered with so many of our roads still littered with potholes and many footpaths in urgent need of repair. Part time lighting will make it even harder for motorists and pedestrians to negotiate these hazards in the dark.

"Whilst I welcome this consultation I hope it is one that genuinely listens to people and takes their views onboard before rolling out such a major programme across Brentwood".
