Brentwood Liberal Democrats are delighted to confirm a strong field of candidates for the Borough Council elections on 22 May 2014

Our sitting councillors Barry Aspinell (Pilgrims Hatch), Liz Cohen (Shenfield) and Philip Mynott (Brentwood North) are all standing for re-election. Barry, Liz and Philip have a spectacular record of fighting for their residents over many years and all are well known characters in their wards. They are at the top end of the list of hardworking councillors and are formidable in the council chamber.

In Warley, we are pleased to see the return of Jill Hubbard after a seven year hiatus. Jill was councillor for Warley from 2002 to 2007 and is returning to fight for the Warley community. In Brentwood West, we have a superb candidate in John Newberry, retired police sergeant formerly of Brentwood Police Station and Brentwood Lib Dem's Crime Prevention Advisor, who aims to join Cllr Karen Chilvers in standing up for the ward.

The seat for Ingatestone, Fryerning and Mountnessing has been a difficult one for us as we were hoping that Bobby Green would be well enough to fight for this seat. Sadly Bobby passed away on 6th April and in tribute to Bobby, we are standing a much respected candidate in Anne Long, former Mayor of Brentwood.

Ingrave, Herongate and West Horndon sees Cyril Young, previously candidate for Warley and known throughout the bowls circuit, launch his bid for election whilst Trevor Ellis, well known activist and former councillor in Braintree, looks to be elected in Brizes & Doddinghurst.

The Hutton East seat is the aim of Andrea Bowers well known former publican who has taken on the council and the local Tories over the Hutton Community Centre and has fought for local groups since the issue arose last year.

We have two brand new candidates in Gail Chatfield who will be standing in Brentwood South, where she lived for many years, and Wendy Antoniou, who has been chosen as our candidate for Hutton Central -both seats that have suffered from Tory councillor neglect for many years.

In South Weald and Hutton South a decision has been taken to not stand candidates in the local election for political reasons. It is our aim to ensure that enough seats are lost by the Conservatives to remove Brentwood from Tory control.

There are no borough council elections this year in Hutton North or Tipps Cross.

Only three seats need to be gained from the Tory by the collective opposition and we are hopeful that decision will help with our ultimate goal in giving Brentwood a brighter future.
