In Channel 4's Political Slot, Vikki Slade, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole visited Canford Heath Infant School to discuss how the new scheme is working.

More than one million children across England are now benefitting from free school meals. Research in pilot areas shows that children who were given a free school meal were academically ahead of their peers elsewhere.

Many children are enjoying their school lunches and eating together with their friends, while parents have said they have noticed the difference it has saved them on their weekly shopping bills.

Thanks to Liberal Democrats in government every child aged between 5 and 7 in England is now eligible for a free school meal.

This is one of the most important changes in our education system for a generation.

Liberal Democrats want every child to achieve their potential by creating opportunity and giving them the best start in life.
