Essex County Council Results for Chelmsford

Chelmsford Liberal Democrats are celebrating holding their three county council seats. In the Chelmsford parliamentary constituency, there are 3 Lib Dems and 2.5 Conservatives (half a seat outside the constituency).

This confims the Lib Dems as the challengers at all levels to the Conservatives, in particular at the upcoming General Election.

Lib Dem leader on Essex County Council, Mike Mackrory, strongly defended his Springfield seat with a significant majority. In another comfortable defence, City Council leader and General Election Parliamentary candidate Stephen Robinson fought off a determined Conservative challenge in Chelmsford North. And in our third defence, a great campaign saw County and City Councillor Jude Deakin double her lead to hold Chelmsford West.

A fantastic effort by Marie Goldman in Chelmsford Central saw our vote double, but ultimately fall short by under 200 votes. A combination of the collapse of the UKIP vote, plus a bizzarely determined Labour campaign in a seat they couldn't win, helped to prop up the Conservative vote. And a similar story in Great Baddow, saw Chris Shaw increase our votes significantly, but again miss out due to the collapse in the UKIP vote.

In other good news, Chelmer saw Natacha Dudley move from 4th to 2nd, whilst in Broomfield and Writtle, Julia Frascona finished 3rd again increasing our share of the vote.

There was also a by-election today in Moulsham & Central. A similar story to the County Council result, saw Graham Pooley agonizingly miss out by only 120 votes.
