Sarah Cloke and Cllr David Kendall campaigning against Essex Library closures (Karen Chilvers)Conservative run Essex County Council is currently consulting on proposals to close 25 of the 74 libraries across Essex, place another 19 under threat of closure (including Shenfield and (Ingatestone) and SLASH the opening hours for those that remain by up to 18 hours a week (including Brentwood).

The Liberal Democrats are opposed to this plan. Libraries are an essential community resource and offer considerably more than just book lending. For many, they are needed to offer internet access, children's centres, family time and social interaction.

The County Council's consultation can be accessed online HERE.

County Cllr David Kendall said, "Brentwood residents pay Essex County Council £37million a year in council tax but the Tories continue to cut services with significant cuts to Adult & Children's Services, Youth Services and now it's Libraries - what next?"

Sarah Cloke, Lib Dem candidate for 2nd May in the ward of Brentwood West, says: "This is a terrible proposal and we need your help. Please sign our petition to save our libraries, a vital service. You can sign online at HERE.
