A webcast cover-up?

A particularly unpleasant Highways Panel meeting that saw the two warring Tory party factions engage in some heated exchanges is yet to appear on the council's website, leading the Liberal Democrats to ask if the council trying to cover up the Conservative melt down that took place.

With many key issues concerning the residents of the borough, such as the Crown Street pedestrianisation, being discussed it seems the Tories are more concerned at tearing each other to pieces. Many members of the public are contacting councillors asking why this meeting has not been available to view on the Council's web site as is the normal practice. If the council is wishing to operate in an open and informative manner concealing this flies in the face of democracy.

At one point, Opposition Leader Cllr David Kendall had to call for order, asking members to show respect for each other, as required by the code of conduct.

Cllr Vicky Davies, former leader of Brentwood Council, said:

"Am I being a cynic in imagining the dreadful conduct of some members of the Tory group and the appalling lack of information given to Councillors in agenda reports, making it impossible in some cases to make an informed decision, may have some bearing on the missing web cast?

"Since the management of Brentwood's highway services were sold off by the Conservatives to Essex County Council resulting in a loss of all our experienced local officers whose ability and dedication to their jobs ensured work was done quickly and efficiently, Brentwood has been receiving a second class service.

"Many councillors now feel ability get action from Council is fraught with difficulty and delay ,a situation that can not be allowed to continue. Brentwood Council has cut to the bone in an attempt to save money ,sadly the process has also destroyed the excellent reputation the council once had and our Council's reputation is becoming tarnished."

Web casts are normally available to view within 24 hours, but Wednesday night's is still not available with no information about when it will be.
