"Alex Burghart, are you still backing Boris?" asks David Kendall
Following today's news from the Supreme Court ruling that Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament for five weeks was unlawful, is our MP still backing Boris as stated in a Conservative newsletter that was recently delivered across Brentwood & Ongar with the headline "Alex backs Boris".
David Kendall, Parliamentary Candidate for Brentwood & Ongar, said:
"The court have found what we knew all along, that Boris Johnson acted unlawfully and has again proven he is not fit to be Prime Minister.
"This shutdown was an unlawful act designed to stop Parliament doing its job and holding the Government to account. Given this damning and unequiovocal verdict, Parliament should be sitting so that MPs can continue to question the Conservative Government on their disastrous Brexit plans.
"This verdict has been unanimously agreed by eleven experienced judges who have considered the case on its merits, acting as impartial guardians of our democratic system. The rule of law is an important pillar of our democracy, and those looking to use this opportunity as an excuse to attack these judges would be not only attacking them, but also the entire principle of our legal system.
"In the light of this ruling I hope that Alex Burgart will reconsider his backing of Boris Johnson and conclude that the Prime Minister should now do the honourable thing and step down from office.
"It remains Liberal Democrat priority to stop a no-deal Brexit and to stop Brexit altogether".
