Local residents christen the new crossing

Residents are celebrating the opening of a new pedestrian crossing on a busy road.

The new zebra crossing, by the Black Horse pub in Ongar Road, Brentwood, was "christened" on Tuesday by residents and local councillors David Kendall and Barry Aspinell.

The Liberal Democrat pair have been campaigning for a safe passage across the road for some time.

Mr Kendall said: "This is an important step for residents.

"The post office and general store are about ten yards away from the new crossing, on what is a very dangerous road.

"We have been campaigning for quite a while for a safe crossing to be put in, so naturally I am delighted it is finally in place."
