Cllr Barry Aspinell: the voice of common sense

Lib Dem and Opposition Leader won a vote at full council with a motion to investigate the purchase a multi-use vehicle for Brentwood that would see us sharing such a vehicle with Essex County Fire & Rescue, stationed at Brentwood Fire Station and enable us to undertake gritting works and snow clearance and animal rescue amongst other things.

Despite this being a common sense motion that committed Brentwood Council to no more than investigating the idea, the Tory leadership spoke against this motion and asked him to withdraw it even though it that would see us have the capacity to deal better with harsh winters, take better care of vulnerable residents and keep Brentwood moving.

All opposition councillors supported Cllr Aspinell but, in an astonishing move, three Tory councillors voted FOR Cllr Aspinell's motion and the investigation can now take place.

Cllr Aspinell said:

"Well done to the Tory councillors who supported a common sense proposal to investigate an entrepenurlal idea - I hope the leadership weren't too hard on them and accept that, for once, they voted for Brentwood residents and not the Tory party's prioities.

"I look forward to working this proposal up and hope it becomes reality."
