Brentwood Tories silence debate AGAIN

23 May 2013

In yet another blow for oppenness and democracy at Brentwood Town Hall, the Conservatives have pushe through a new constitution that now prevents councillors not on a specific committee from asking questions during the debate.

Councillors now have to put the question in writing 24 hours before the meeting and, unless they are a voting member, will not be allowed to ask an ad hoc question during the debate, unless the chair allows it.

However, with a history of turning off the opposition microphones in the past, it does seem quite unlikely that this will be allowed very often.
