Brentwood and Ongar Liberal Democrats have welcomed the announcement that schools within the Brentwood and Ongar Constituency are getting an extra £403,000 from the Pupil Premium to improve the education of the most disadvantaged children.

Of the money that will be going to Brentwood schools during the 2011/2012 academic year, £23,424 will go to Holly Trees Primary on Crescent Road, £18,056 will be going to Hogarth Primary School, £11,712 to Warley Primary School, and £22,448 to Willowbrook Primary in Hutton, in order to ensure that the children at those schools will have the best possible opportunities in life.

Brentwood and Ongar Lib Dem Vice Chair Cllr Ross Carter commented:

"The Pupil Premium is a policy the Lib Dems devised and campaigned for, and put at the heart of Coalition negotiations. Now it is more than good policy, it is a reality making a difference to the school down your road. It goes directly into classrooms and will benefit all pupils.

Cllr Ross Carter

"It is also a milestone in breaking the link between poverty and achievement, tackling Labour's shocking legacy where the richest 16-year olds are three times as likely to get five good GCSE's as the poorest"
