Consultation on town hall demanded by Lib Dems

There are calls for residents to be consulted on the future of the Town Hall. The main opposition at Brentwood Borough Council, the Liberal Democrats, are among those who believe it is crucial for people to have their say on such an important decision in the town's recent history.

Last week we revealed the town hall could be demolished or sold for millions of pounds as part of a major shake-up of council services.

All options are being explored by the borough council including selling the Ingrave Road town hall to developers and buying or renting another location in town: knocking down and redeveloping the existing site or undertaking major repairs and refurbishments to the current building.

The Lib Dem leader, Cllr David Kendall, stressed the importance of consulting residents, whatever the preferred option turns out to be.

He said:

"The Town Hall belongs to the local residents and not to the Tory council. They need to be consulted."

"Another important issue from our perspective is that Brentwood must continue to have its own town hall."
