The leader of the Liberal Democrats in Brentwood is vying to topple MP Eric Pickles at the next General Election.

Brentwood and Ongar Liberal Democrats have selected Brentwood borough councillor David Kendall as their parliamentary candidate.

Cllr Kendall says he is aiming to give sitting Conservative MP Mr Pickles a contest to remember.

Cllr Kendall, 48, founder of the Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association, has contested the seat before, in 2001.

He said: "I am delighted to have been chosen to fight this seat. I would work hard for everyone in the community."
