Delight and shock as Opposition brings one hour parking charge back to Brentwood

BREAKING NEWS: Tories defeated over car parking charge stance in Town Centre!

Thanks to a 140-strong Lib Dem petition and the support of other opposition councillors, Brentwood will be getting its one hour car parking charge back.

The option was removed last year and the Tories refused to listen to residents and traders and support a rethink called for by the combined opposition last year but tonight, on the basis of a 140-strong petition presented by Lib Dem Cllr Karen Chilvers at full council on 10th July and presented to the committee by Cllr Vicky Davies this evening, the vote went the way of the opposition and the vote was 4-3 in favour of a return of this charge, with a number of Tories abstaining on the vote.

The petition read: "We, the undersigned, request that the Conservative administration running Brentwood Borough Council immediately reinstate the one hour parking charge across all car parks as the choice of 30 minutes or 2-hours with nothing in between is not working for residents or businesses and is having a detrimental effect on our town."
