Cllr Derek Hardy, former Mayor of Brentwood, has announced he is to stand down from active politics after serving for 17 years as ward councillor for Brizes and Doddinghurst. Derek also served as county councillor for 12 years and parish councillor for 25 years.

Cllr David Kendall, Brentwood Lib Dem Leader said:

"Derek has served this borough in an exemplary fashion at three levels of local government. He is a champion for the area and has always carried himself in a professional and extremely dignified way. He will be sadly missed in the council chamber by the Liberal Democrat group who have all benefited from his conduct, knowledge and experience.

We wish Derek, and his loyal wife Marjorie, well in his retirement and thank him for his years of hard work and dedication."

Derek has been a member of the Liberal/Liberal Democrat party since 1948 and will still remain involved as Honorary President of Brentwood & Ongar Liberal Democrats but especially through his legendary fund raising events!

The Liberal Democrats are delighted, however, that Jackie Anslow, Chairman of the Brentwood Arts Council, will stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate in Brizes & Doddinghurst in his place. Jackie, a former Brentwood councillor, is a board member for Relate and is involved in fostering, having fostered many children over the years and as a member of the Fostering Panel. Jackie lives in the Brentwood villages with her two cats and parrot, spending lots of time with her young granddaughters too.
