Increased security at Brentwood stations welcomed

15 Jan 2008

The Liberal Democrats have welcomed the news that ONE Railway has contracted a Security company (MH Security) to provide security agents for Brentwood Station. The agents have been taken on to help improve passenger safety and reduce the number of groups congregating at the station after school and into the early evening. This is an additional initiative to work already being done in the area by the local police and PCSOs.

The agents will wear high visibility tabards are fully SIA licensed and are "hands on". They are being used at a number of stations on the line including Romford, Gidea Park and Shenfield.

Any new initiatives by ONE to help try and tackle the anti social behaviour problems at the station at night are welcomed. Some passengers, particularly women have felt very intimidated by the behaviour and language of some of these youths so I hope this new measure will build on the work that is already being done by other agencies to tackle the problem.
