Information Centre to open on Saturdays
THE High Street information centre is set to open on Saturdays due to popular demand.
Brentwood Council has said it plans to extend the opening times of its information centre so more residents can find out about council services, and is looking to open it until 1pm on Saturdays.
To off-set the cost of the extra hours, however, the council has said it will close the centre at lunchtime on Wednesday, which it says is the centre's quietest time.
The move comes after the council experimented with Saturday openings as part of the High Street development.
The centre proved so popular at the weekends, the council agreed to make the fixture permanent although the start date is yet to be announced.
Liberal Democrat councillors said they are delighted with the news.
Lib Dem leader David Kendall said: "I asked for the centre to be opened on a Saturday back in January which resulted in a trial opening.
"My original call was to meet the needs of residents during the High Street improvements, but the trial showed there is a long-term need for the centre to be open on Saturdays."
"I'm pleased to see the administration has responded positively to our call."
