Lib Dem Success: Review of Brook Street Roundabout signs & lines confirmed
A review of the signage at the Brook Street roundabout (J28 of the M25) has been confirmed after a year's hard work by former Brentwood West councillor Karen Chilvers.
In an email received last week, the company that takes responsible for the route on behalf of the Highways Agency, Connect Plus Services, said:
"…we are aware of a number of issues that some users of this junction have with the signing and lining of the Brook Street roundabout and on the slip roads.
"A safety study to identify any changes that might improve the junction and the slip road approaches has just been agreed and will be carried out before the end of this financial year."
They also confirmed that comments made by Brentwood residents will be considered by the team carrying out the safety study. However, any work identified from the review will be subject to available funding. Ms Chilvers is now asking for clarity over funding, timing and the process that will need to take place.
Cllr David Kendall, Leader of Brentwood Liberal Democrats, said:
"It is entirely down to Karen and her determination to get things done that this review is at last taking place. Her residents raised this with her a year ago and since then she has been highlighting the issues, campaigning with residents and negotiating with the Highways Agency - including making time for a site visit - to make sure this happened, even though she lost her seat."
Karen said:
"I am so pleased that action is being taken. I had a lot of residents across Brentwood contacting me about this when I highlighted the issue and I was determined to fight on for them, despite no longer being a councillor. I look forward to the results of the review and, hopefully, a safer junction in the near future."
