Brentwood North's Liberal Democrat team has appealed to the operators of two local bus routes to make additional stops to help local residents, especially during the High Street works.

Borough councillors Ross Carter and Reg Straw and County Councillor Barry Aspinell have written to Excel Passenger Logistics, who run the new Brentwood to Stansted Coach Service, requesting it stop for passengers at The Robin Hood & Little John, Brentwood and outside The Rose and Crown, Pilgrims Hatch and also to Imperial Bus Company, who run the 71 route serving Costead Manor Road and Greenshaw, asking them to alter their timetable so all journeys serve the Estate.

Cllr Ross Carter commented:

"Tough economic times have seen a growing number of residents switch to using public transport and we wish to see the best possible transport services available to residents. An increased service serving Costead Manor Road will benefit commuters and residents alike as the nights draw in and more frequent stopping points for the Stansted service will enhance accessibility.

"So many of our residents tell us better public transport in Brentwood would make a positive difference to their daily lives, we are keen to push for better services in an economic climate where they are valued and needed more than ever.

Liberal Democrats have a strong record of involvement in local transport issues and have supported a Sunday bus services for Hutton, the Three Arches Estate and Pilgrims Hatch. Recently, it was announced that the 551 Bus Service will begin to operate on Sundays and Bank Holidays after years of campaigning by Brentwood's Liberal Democrats.
