FLASHBACK: Lib Dem Councillors Ross Carter and Reg Straw make their feelings known on the application in March 2008

Brentwood North Liberal Democrats are overjoyed that the appeal on the controversial Park Road Flats scheme has been thrown out by the planning Inspectorate after a sustained campaign by local residents.

Councillor Ross Carter said:

"This is a fantastic piece of news. We are delighted that the voices of Park Road and Mayfield Gardens residents have been heard by the appeal committee. We always believed that the affect of this proposal and others on the amenity and enjoyment of the area would be severely detrimental and were only too willing to do all we could to support the sustained campaign by residents. The burden on the local environment was unacceptable to both councillors and residents alike.

Councillor Reg Straw added:

"The campaign against this was resident led from the start and they are to be commended.

"What better way to begin a New Year than with a result like this!"

Liberal Democrats will continue to fight plans against "urban sprawls" across Brentwood. We have real concerns about the ability of our local services and traffic network to cope with new housing additions. As a party we have always championed affordable housing for our young people, but we must ensure we balance this against what is right for Brentwood.
