Long term commitment on refuse collections is needed

Brentwood's Lib Dem county councillors have opposed the closure of two refuse & recycling centres in Essex and the reduction of hours for the site in Mountnessing. The sites that will close are in Ongar and St Osyth. Cllrs Barry Aspinell and David Kendall have released a statement saying:

"We totally oppose the closure of the two sites, particularly the Ongar one which will have a direct effect on the Coxtie Green site, and the reduction in hours in Mountessing."

"Many Brentwood residents who live in the villages use the Ongar site and really value the amenity. The closure will mean people having to travel a greater distance to recycle and will make Coxtie Green even busier.

"We are fully behind the Ongar residents who oppose this closure and are astounded the Cabinet member Cllr Kevin Bentley has chosen to dismiss, out of hand, the petition signed by thousands of residents. We believe the closure of these sites is a very backward step as it will lead to an increase in flytipping and discourage people from recycling."

The Liberal Democrats have called in the Conservative Cabinet Member's decision.
