Lib Dems put Merrymeade House at the top of the agenda

In response to Brentwood Leisure Trust's application for an alcohol license at Merrymeade House, Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood North's Liberal Democrat councillors have met with residents of Merrymeade House, Brentwood Place, Burland Road and Highland Avenue to discuss their concerns and involve them in the Council's licensing process.

The Trust have applied for alcohol to be served at the house from 9am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday. As a result of representations made by residents, and liasion with Lib Dem councillors and licensing officers, the application will now be referred to the licensing committee on 24th November where it can be debated and residents views considered before a decision is made.

In a statement, Brentwood North Councillors Cllr Ross Carter, Philip Mynott and Reg Straw said:

"We have long expressed concern in the council chamber regarding the closure of Old House and the shift of facilities to Merrymeade House. Merrymeade House exists in a semi rural location and is surrounded by residential property at Limes Court and Holly House, both of which have experienced their fair share of alcohol related problems in the past.

"Young families are resident above the community hall at Merrymeade House and the concerns of these residents need to be given full consideration at the Town Hall. If any concerned residents wish to contact us we would love to hear from them"
