Incompetence and lack of action is continuing to put lives at risk on the A128 in Pilgrims Hatch where, after four weeks of countless complaints to the council by residents and local councillors, the street lights are still out and no action has been taken to rectify the problem.

Cllr Vicky Davies, Pilgrims Hatch, is extremely angry that so little care is given to highway safety and that their concerns are disregarded by the council

Cllr Mrs Davies said:

"This stretch of road is subject to regular speed checks by the police, as it is notoriously dangerous, but the Highways Department at Essex County Council treat our concerns with disdain and choose to continue to place road users at risk. Fear is that a serious accident could happen especially in the area where the road centre island lights are not functioning.

"Since the Tories at Brentwood Council gave the highway services for Brentwood Borough to Essex County Council the standard of care to Brentwood residents has been abysmal and we receive a service that is second rate to say the least.

"The lack of action to restore the lighting in the Ongar road is scandalous and must be put right as a matter of extreme urgency. I sincerely hope it will not take a tragedy on this stretch of road to see action taken."
