Money for Brentwood's High Street toilets must be found
Brentwood Lib Dem councillors David Kendall and Karen Chilvers threw their support behind plans to refurbish the toilets in Brentwood High Street and provide a new street level facility which would serve as a disabled access toilet and baby changing facility at last night's Environmental Panel meeting.
Members were told that street level facility would be large enough to be equipped as a "Changing Places" toilet. However, concern was expressed that no money had been allocated to upgrade the toilets within the budgets for the High Street improvements.
Cllr Kendall suggested that the Council considered using money from the Assizes Trust fund to get the scheme up and running as soon as possible. The Chair and the officers welcomed the suggestion and said it would be carefully considered as a way of moving things forward.
Cllr Kendall said:
"We owe it to our residents to get the High Street toilets refurbished and the new street level facilities built as soon as possible. Funding provision for the toilets should have been made within the budgets for the High Street improvements, but if it hasn't, then I know we have substantial funds in the Assizes Trust that could be used to turn this project into reality.
"I am calling on the administration to use this money for the benefit of all in the community as intended."
