Message from County Councillor Barry Aspinell re Ongar Road Closure

Following being alerted to this problem by Mr. Woodcock, I contacted ECC Highways as I have received no notification of the major road closure and route diversion. Apparently, an automated website notification was sent to me on Wednesday, but unfortunately it never reached its destination!

It is simply not good enough. I live on the Ongar Road and understand peoples' frustration and anger over this. Why is this work not being undertaken at night / early hours of the morning? Yes, there would be some noise disturbance but nothing compared to the disruption most of Pilgrims Hatch will have to endure during this period. Also, I am informed that Open Reach will be doing works after the resurfacing and I hope this is pole and line replacement and they do not intend to dig up the newly laid road surface, but who knows with this lot!! My neighbour would be able to organise a drinks party at his brewery better than this organisation!

I can assure you that there is no forward planning engagement with local councillors on this whatsoever. This is being programmed by people in Chelmsford and Harlow with no local knowledge input by local councillors to advise them of alternative ways of working.
