Opposition Quartet celebrate Town Hall deal
The four original members of the Town Hall Working Group, formed after the shock Town Hall vote that saved the building in 2011, met outside the Town Hall today to celebrate the final stage of the deal to save our seat of local government.
In those two years there have been over thirty meetings and the achievement has been a vibrant hub for council, business and community groups to all come together under the same roof.
Lib Dem Cllr David Kendall said:
"We worked in the most refreshing cross-party way to pull this deal together and most of the work was done with the four of us at the helm. This is an excellent example of working together for the borough, regardless of party colour."
Labour's Cllr Mike Le Surf was also part of the group, as well as Cllr Russell Quirk as chair and Cllr Phil Baker as vice-chair - both unceremoniously dumped from their positions by the Tory leadership when they left the Conservative party, even though they were making great progress.
Cllr Kendall said:
"I do hope that the Tories don't try and pretend that this is all down to them when everyone knows the truth."
The final vote on the deal will be taken on 11th September 2013.
