Questions asked on bus pass consultation
Liberal Democrat County Councillor David Kendall asked some important questions at the Essex County Council meeting this week. He asked whether any changes to the existing bus pass scheme, or alternative concessions that are currently provided, could have a significant impact on bus pass users across Essex.
The county councillor said that as this is such a sensitive issue to many of our residents, why the County Council had not sent out individual public consultation questionnaires to every bus pass user in Essex to ensure that officers and members get as much feedback as possible on this very important issue.
He was told by the Tory Cabinet Member for Highways Cllr Norman Hume that whilst it would be ideal to mail questionnaires to individual residents, the costs are prohibitive. Cllr Hume also said:
"We are confident that the consultation process proposed will enable us to gather sufficient feedback from our users"
The Liberal Democrats are very concerned about the potential changes that might arise out of this consultation and would urge all bus pass users to take part.
