Recycling? Don't take orange bags to a Recycling Centre in Brentwood!
Concerned residents contacted their councillors recently after being turned away with excess recycling bags from our refuse and recycling centres.
It has been confirmed that Brentwood and Essex councils made this decision, but did not bother telling councillors or residents.
Another crushing blow for democracy, openness and common sense.
The letter below explains it all;
I can confirm that with the exception of green and residual waste, as of November 2013 all other wastes going into the site are contractually owned by our Integrated Waste Handling contractor (IWHC) Veolia Environmental Services.
Brentwood Borough Council (BBC) removed the bins from both Coxtie Green and Mountnessing recycling centres for household waste on Friday 1st of November 2013. Although Essex County Council (ECC) advised the Senior Management within BBC that the bins would need to be removed at some point a specific date was not originally set and subsequently we have been informed they were removed on the first day of the new contract. Coxtie Green will still accept orange sacks from residents but if they wish to recycle the contents they will be asked to separate the contents into the relevant recyclable containers. If the resident does not wish to separate out the contents, and does not wish to take them away and present them as part of their kerbside collection, they will be directed to the residual waste bin.
This decision was made by ECC as part of the IWHC procurement process in 2012. This was added to the Authority Requirements and contractual documents following dialogue with bidders over ownership of materials and safety in relation to site serving by third parties.
Ideally no orange sacks should be taken to any RCHW in Brentwood as I understand BBC operates a weekly collection for this material.
