Brentwood Liberal Democrats have announced that Cllr Reg Straw is retiring as Brentwood North councillor after 19 years representing the ward. James Sapwell, who stood as an independent candidate in the 2010 General Election prior to joining the Liberal Democrats, will stand as the Lib Dem candidate for the ward.

Cllr Straw, 70, who has warmly endorsed James as his replacement, will be spending his retirement on a number of local charity projects.

James was brought up in Brentwood and attended Brentwood County High School where he was made Head Boy. He currently works as a shipbroker and, like many of us, commutes from Brentwood Station daily.
