Campaigners are rallying round to help an old friend.

Supporters are looking at ways to retain Old House in Shenfield Road for community use.Last year Brentwood council revealed it would consider selling off the community facility once the proposed refurbishment of Merrymeade House, off Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood, is complete.

Old House is used by a number of groups including Learning for Pleasure adult education.

Liberal Democrat councillors believe the council should lease out the upper floors for commercial use and leave the ground floor available for use by the public.

Lib Dem leader Cllr David Kendall said: "Old House is a listed building which is much loved."
