Warley Hill Post Office saved
After a hard fought battle to save this valuable local amenity, the Post Office have confirmed that the Warley Hill branch will remain open!
The final decision document on the Post Office site states:
"Customers made us aware that the branch was situated in Warley Hill, not Warley Road as stated on our consultation materials. Customers advised us that the alternative branch at Brentwood is not along level terrain and that there is inadequate parking at and bus services to the alternative branches. Respondents also raised concern that our proposals would increase congestion in the town centre.
"We have carefully re-examined this proposal taking into account the journey to the nearest branch, the terrain, as well as the ability of the alternative branches to cope with the additional footfall. Taking these and all other relevant factors into consideration, our final decision is not to proceed with the closure of Post Office® Warley Road (Hill) branch."
Cllr Karen Chilvers, who organised an on-line and door-to-door petition amongst local residents said:
"I am absolutely delighted at this news. The Post Office Consultation team took notice of the points I made to them regarding the wrong address and the fact that it is not level terrain to the town centre. This was clearly fundamental to the final decision."
"Warley Hill post office is a crucial part of Brentwood West and Warley and essential for all the residents who live in the area, particularly the elderly, those with young children and disabled people, many of whom wrote to me and helped me to prove the case to keep it open."
"Post Mistress Shireen, and the staff in the shop, are all over the moon!"
