Welcome to Brentwood....please go to Lakeside?

Brentwood Town Centre councillors Karen Chilvers and James Sapwell have both written to the council demanding answers as to why leaflets were being handed out in our town centre advertising Lakeside Shopping Centre yesterday.

Cllr Sapwell said:

"Independent retailers in Brentwood are having a tough enough time surviving, but we have a lot to offer shoppers. it beggars belief that after all the work that has gone on to encourage people into our town that other shopping centres, with a significant marketing budget for billboards and radio advertising, are being promoted in our town!"

Cllr Chilvers added:

"We need to understand how this has been allowed to happen and, if it is happening with the express permission of the council, then we need to change our policies and ensure there is express criteria of what promotional activity we allow on our land."

UPDATE: 5/12/12 AT 5pm

"We are pleased to note that express permission was not given and the matter has been raised with Lakeside management however, we feel that the issue should be discussed in an effort to protect our town centre. We have now asked for the item to appear on a future agenda so councillors are aware of what recourse is available."
