Nicky Cuthbert is Elected to represent Shenfield
We were all delighted with Darryl's success on the 5th of May. Darryl has been a tireless campaigner for his ward and this success was long overdue. Darryl received an impressive 1098 votes putting him well clear of the Conservative incumbent, Jon Cloke who was seeking re-election.
It is with great delight that I can report the Brentwood Liberal Democrats had an excellent night on Thursday with gains made in the local elections. It was our target to ensure that all sitting Councillors won their seats and all did so. Congratulations to Mark Haigh, Phil Mynott, Dominic Naylor and Barry Aspinell in being reelected. A huge vote of confidence in the work that they do. We also wanted to make gains and we did just that in taking seats in Shenfield and Ingatestone. Well done to Nicky Cuthbert in Shenfield and Darryl Sankey in Ingatestone, Frerning & Mountnessing. These two will make excellent Liberal Democrat Councillors, working for their local communities. Their hard work has ensured that we are closer to our objective of winning overall control of Brentwood. Commiserations to Brenner Munden who fought so hard but came up just short in South Weald. Overall we had the most votes in this election across all wards. Totals being: Lib Dem: 7898 Conservative: 6933 Labour: 2367 Green: 286 Reform
After some electoral reversals last year, the Tory government put on hold multiple controversial changes to the planning system that they had, until then, been proposing. During the Chesham and Amersham by-election campaign, for instance, the Lib Dems were helped to victory by being able to quote ex-Prime Minister Theresa May's criticisms of Johnson's proposed planning changes against the Tories themselves! Unfortunately, this still didn't mean that Britain's planning system was spared from Tory interference.
