In an interview with the Essex Enquirer today, new Shenfield Councillor Liz Cohen gives her reaction to her election in the traditionally Tory safe seat:
Liz Cohen won yesterday's by election in Shenfield with a resounding victory over the Conservatives who, until May 2012, had held all three borough seats since 1896.
In a shock tweet, last year's Tory Mayor has told Shenfield voters to "Vote for someone other than the conservative candidate" at the Shenfield by-election this morning. Mrs Joan Holmes, former town centre councillor, has made the dramatic move, she says, in response to the fact that her colleague will be sacked for "speaking his mind". Polls are open until until 10pm tonight and the Lib Dem candidate, Liz Cohen, is in a neck-and-neck race with the Tory candidate with the other parties clearly out of the race and over 500 votes behind.

This is also part of a collaborative campaign to persuade the leadership at Brentwood Council to come clean and to begin to walk the walk of openness and transparency in their dealings in order that their actions start to match their rhetoric in this regard.
Liberal Democrat councillors and many Brentwood residents were left angry and frustrated at last night¡¦s Extraordinary Council meeting after the leadership of the Conservative administration failed time after time to deliver openness and transparency on the William Hunter Way development.
